A horrific scene unfolded Saturday evening when gunfire erupted in Philadelphia’s Kensington neighborhood, injuring nine people.

Officers responded to reports of shots fired in the area of ​​Kensington and East Allegheny avenues around 10:45 a.m.

Deputy Police Commissioner John Stanford said the shooting occurred when several armed men got out of a black vehicle in the area and started shooting at the crowd on the sidewalk.

In all, police say at least nine people were shot dead. All were transported to Temple University Hospital by first responders.

Two of the injured are in critical condition, while the rest are in stable condition, police said.

Police were investigating surveillance video to identify the shooters, whose motive is unknown at this time.
