BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – A suspect has been arrested in connection with a September shooting at an apartment complex that left one person injured and another dead.
19-year-old Lavell Ondaria Burton was arrested and charged with capital murder, murder, robbery in the first degree and larceny in a vehicle.
The shooting happened at the Adona apartment complex on Aspen Dr. in Birmingham on Tuesday, Sept. 20 around 10 p.m.
When officers arrived, they found 19-year-old Stephen Lawrence Scott, Jr., shot inside the crashed car. He died on the spot.
They found another man who had been shot at the apartment complex. The victim was taken to the hospital.
Police believe it was a targeted incident based on what they call a “massive” number of shots fired at a single vehicle.
Shots were fired during a media interview with BPD
During an interview with a Birmingham police officer, someone fired several shots in the area. The officer stopped the interview for safety. Birmingham police said the motive for the shooting was not known at this time, but Adona was not fired from the property.
Burton is in the custody of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, where he is being held without bond on a charge of capital murder.
