The new kiosks are in place across the state to help Hoosiers facing eviction with legal resources and services.

The 120 kiosks provide easy access to IndianaLegalHelp.org.

Indiana Bar Foundation President and CEO Charles Dunlap said the kiosks will first focus on serving Hoosiers facing evictions or homelessness, and will expand to other law enforcement programs. last year.

“We are able to do this project because of the emergency rental assistance dollars that have been provided by the federal government. But again, after six months, it opens up to a lot more civil legal aid, information and needs that most people have,” said Dunlap.

As of mid-October, 77,000 Indiana renters – 12 percent – were behind on their payments, according to the National Equity Atlas. Most did not ask for help. The kiosks allow people to connect to a remote courthouse operator, access legal information and resources, and request rental assistance.

The kiosks, which include a printer and scanner for documents, are designed to be reliable, convenient and easy to use.

“So, we’ve done a lot of user testing, focus groups and development to make sure it’s user friendly. And we think these and the new improvements that are coming out now with the new kiosk format, It also focuses on the area of access from visually impaired issues and other areas that are accessible to people with disabilities,” said Dunlap.

All 92 counties are expected to have at least one kiosk hosting location, and some counties have requested additional kiosks if funding becomes available.

Organizations such as courts, libraries, cafeterias, shelters for survivors of domestic violence, legal aid organizations, and others that serve those who related to the security of the building can be requested to host a kiosk.

The Indiana Legal Help website has an interactive map that shows where the kiosks are.
