A tow truck driver was shot and killed Sunday night on the city’s West Side and caught in the crossfire when two other vehicles opened fire, authorities said.

According to police, at approximately 10:50 p.m., a 49-year-old male tow truck driver was traveling westbound in the 1900 block of West Fulton Street when people in two separate cars opened fire. The tow truck driver was shot in the left arm, officials said.

After being injured, the tow truck driver rammed into a bus stop, officials say. Photos and videos from the scene show extensive damage to the tow truck and a parked car, which is suspected to have been hit before the truck crashed.

According to officials, the man was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead by the police.

The identity of the victim has not yet been released. Authorities are still searching for those involved in the shooting. No one is in custody and detectives are investigating.
