Kokrajhar (Assam): Two women were missing and three were injured on Wednesday after a boat they were traveling in capsized in the Sonkosh River in Kokrajhar district, officials said.
The incident took place near No 1 Gorumara “Char”, a clearing that jutted out from the river bed, when five women went to collect wood floating in the water.
The place is located near the Assam-West Bengal border.
“Most of the rivers on the north side of the Brahmaputra in lower Assam come from Bhutan and carry logs of wood if it rains. The women went on a small indigenous boat to collect wood, which is mostly used for cooking. ” he added.
During the collection of the board, it was said that the boat overturned and two of the women disappeared from the boat, according to the official.
Three other women sustained serious injuries and were admitted to a local hospital in Alipurduar.
Search operations have been launched by the district administration, police, and SDRF personnel to find the boat and rescue the missing women, he added.

The missing women have been identified as Ramisha Khatun and Shafiya Bibi, according to the official.
