The banned United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) on Tuesday claimed responsibility for an ambush on an army patrol party in Assam’s Tinsukia district on Monday, in which security forces said at least one terrorist was injured.
In a statement sent by email to some media, the terrorist group said that the ambush, dubbed ‘Operation Lakhipathar’, was to mark the ‘Day of Demonstration’ which the terrorist group celebrates on 28- from November.
On Monday morning, an army patrol was attacked in a forest area on the Digboi-PengerI Road in Barapathar, while they were on a parade to rule. The group detonated an IED that destroyed a Casspir anti-mine vehicle and fired approximately 20-30 rounds.
Although the army claimed that one terrorist was injured in a counter attack, the ULFA-I in its statement insisted that several soldiers were injured in the ambush.
