WVU issued a community notice on Saturday, Nov. 5 following the recent shooting outside its campus in downtown Morgantown.

West Virginia University Police are urging members of the campus community to be alert and vigilant following two off-campus shootings in downtown Morgantown on Oct. 30 and Nov. 5.
WVU implemented its emergency notification system in both cases by issuing a community notice through the WVU Safety & Wellness social media accounts. Neither incident involved a WVU student or member of the campus community, and in neither case was there an immediate threat to campus based on available information.
“These are the latest in a series of similar crimes that have occurred in the same public area since September, and I want our campus community, especially students, to be aware of these and know that our department is working closely with the Morgantown Police to handle the incidents. Things like this,” said UPD Chief Sherry St. Clair. “Our relationship with MPD is important and we appreciate their partnership.”
Morgantown police are investigating two early morning incidents on High Street. In each incident, one person was injured and the search for the accused is on.

- Know your neighborhood. Identify the hours of operation of police and fire stations, libraries, and emergency telephones — as well as local stores and restaurants.
