MESA, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) — One person is dead and another is in the hospital after a shooting inside a Mesa Pizza restaurant Wednesday evening, police say. Another person in the restaurant was also injured by falling glass. Just before 5 p.m., officers received several 911 calls reporting shots fired inside Desert Peaks Pizza & Grill near Wrecker and McKellips roads.
Officers arrived at a crowded restaurant and escorted some officers inside. Det. Robert Encinas with Mesa police said officers pronounced one dead at the scene and transported the other to a hospital. A third man, hit by shrapnel, did not require hospitalization.
Officials are still trying to figure out what led to the shooting, but say it was not a random attack. The investigation is ongoing.
