He inaugurated a six-storey party office worth Rs 25 crore in Guwahati along with BJP national president JP Nadda.

The BJP-led government was installed in May 2021 for the second time in a row. Looking for five more years, Mr. Shah hinted that the BJP is eyeing another term in Assam.

“The government of Assam and KDQ are preparing an ambitious project to solve the problem of flooding. We are confident that the project, once implemented, will make Assam’s history of permanent floods,” he said, adding that the Narendra Modi government at the Center is committed to mitigating water-related problems in the State.

Wetland regeneration

According to official data, Assam loses at least 200 crore annually due to floods. Among the state’s flood control plans is the restoration of wetland networks.

Mr. Shah said this approach will help increase the holding capacity of wetlands and make them a buffer during floods.

He also explained the BJP’s achievements in Assam and the rest of the northeast in the last eight years of the Modi government. He claimed that BJP has established peace and accelerated the pace of development.

“Before 2014, the youth of the state were roaming around with guns. There were various types of agitations and bandhs, which affected the development. During Modiji’s leadership, we signed various agreements, and they helped to bring peace,” he said.

“Rehabilitation for Bruce”

Accords were signed with militant outfits in Assam’s Bodoland and Karbi Anglong and in Tripura. Another agreement was signed with Mizoram-displaced Brus to rehabilitate Tripura.

“The work to resolve border disputes in the region has also progressed. Assam, once known for insurgency, insurgency and gunfire, today is known for employment, infrastructure and development. Modiji has brought peace to the entire northeast,” said Mr. Shah.

He also underlined the Assam government’s efforts to stop rhino poaching.

“Infiltrating gangs have made the forests of Kaziranga National Park a safe haven. They used to hunt rhinoceros. The Assam BJP government removed them and removed them as encroachments. Rhinos are roaming freely today,” he said.

The Home Minister added that the BJP government has completely stopped the export of cattle from Bangladesh.

“Cattle smuggling in Bodoland was rampant. As the Minister of Revenue, I can honestly say that there is no car like this in the country. The Himanta Biswa Sarma government has also banned arms and ammunition known as peanuts,” he said.
