DALLAS – New bodycam footage shows the moments after two Dallas Methodist Hospital nurses were killed by a suspect in a maternity hospital ward in October.

Footage shared by WFAA News shows the suspect, Nestor Hernandez, stepping into a maternity ward hospital room shortly before attacking his girlfriend with a handgun after becoming enraged during an argument, police said.

Hospital nurse Jacqueline Pokua entered to check on Hernandez’s girlfriend. The video does not show what happened to Pokua after entering the room, but from the surgeon. Shots can be heard on Robert Rangel’s bodycam.

Viewers can hear a second shot on Rangel’s bodycam video, and police say Rangel was shot as he approached the hospital room to investigate what was going on, WFAA News reported.

Moments later, viewers could hear a third shot as Annette Flowers, another nurse Hernandez was responding to, was wounded, then ran for help as Rangel called for backup on her radio.

As Hernandez reloaded his weapon and tried to leave the room, Rangel fired a shot, striking the suspect in the leg and a brief scuffle ensued.

“Mate, let’s fix this, man,” a responding officer can be heard saying in the video. “trust me.”

Hernandez responded: “Nothing works, bro.”

Officers were eventually able to enter the room and take Hernandez into custody. After a short hospital visit, Hernandez was taken to the Dallas County Jail, where he remains. At the time of the shooting, Hernandez was out of prison on parole after serving an eight-year sentence in 2015 for robbery.
