Milwaukee – A Milwaukee man has been sentenced to a year in prison after prosecutors charged him in connection with a North Side shooting.
Marley Boyce, 23, pleaded guilty Nov. 4 to operating a vehicle without owner’s consent and possession of a firearm by a felon. As part of a plea deal, one count of negligent injury was dismissed.
According to the criminal complaint, Boyce, the gunman and others were at an apartment near 25th and Center on Friday, Feb. 18. He left the room and when he returned, Boyce asked him with a handgun: “Where’s the money?”

An argument broke out and the gun was knocked out of Boyce’s hand as he beat the victim, according to the complaint. Boyce then took the victim’s coat, a wallet and keys into a Chevy HHR and left the scene.
He was shot in the abdomen and admitted to the hospital with a collapsed lung.

Later that day, police conducted a traffic stop at Chevy HHR, where residents said the suspect was at a hotel on Appleton Avenue. He was taken into custody without incident.
The suspect was questioned and admitted to being in the apartment at the time of the shooting. Although he denied the shooting and blamed someone else. The accused said that the car keys had been given to him earlier.
In addition to the prison term, Boyce was also sentenced to 2 ½ years of extended supervision.
