Shillon: Assam continues to lead the overall medal tally for the 2nd North East Olympics 2022, amassing 49 as at 10:45 pm on Monday.
A number of events will be concluded on Tuesday and the North East team will be looking to maintain their advantage going into the final day.
Manipur, the overall champion in 2018, has around 45 golds, while Arunachal Pradesh has 31 and Meghalaya 20, which is almost 7 times the number they won four years ago.
Karate started today and several medals were awarded, with Arunachal Pradesh having 3 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze. Assam claimed 1 medal in each category, while Meghalaya bagged 1 gold and 2 bronze. Sikkim, still looking for their first gold of the Games, bagged 1 silver and 2 bronze, same as Mizoram. On the other hand, Manipur got 1 silver and 1 bronze while Nagaland came away with only 1 bronze, although there are more medals to be awarded tomorrow.

Interestingly, the gold was shared in the men’s under-20 high jump, with Simeon Marak and Albinus Rongpeit, both from Meghalaya, clearing a height of 1.80m. This meant no silver medal was awarded, while the bronze went to Manipur’s L Mangansana (1.75m).
