Cape Coral, Fla. – An arrest has been made in connection with Sunday’s fatal shooting in Cape Coral.
Around 12:13 am, Cape Coral Police Department officers responded to a call at 636 Del Prado Blvd South (Cape Coral Hospital) regarding a shooting.
Officers spoke with three individuals who were inside the vehicle at the time of the shooting, CCPD reported. Giordani Vidal Castro, of Cape Coral, was sitting in the front passenger side seat of the victim, with Damian Michael Gonzalez sitting in the back.
After joking back and forth, Castro pulled a gun from his lap and shot Gonzalez in the chest. Castro did not recognize the loaded gun.
Panic-stricken, the gun was thrown from the vehicle, but was found and submitted as evidence.
According to call notes, Gonzalez arrived at Cape Coral Hospital with a gunshot wound to the upper chest. Gonzalez was later pronounced dead.
The investigation revealed that this was not an intentional act. Other individuals have confirmed a similar account of what happened.
Castro is charged with murder.
He was taken to the Lee County Jail.
