CHICAGO (CBS) — A fight outside a River North nightclub ended in gunfire early Sunday morning. Four people were shot, one of whom died, according to the Chicago Police Department.
The shooting happened around 2:10 a.m. outside Hush, a club in the 300 block of West Chicago Avenue.
River North residents say they are worried about the rise in crime and the fear that comes with it.
“Not anymore, you know? Nobody wants that in your neighborhood,” Linda Markren said.
She’s lived in River North for 10 years and is sick of the crime tape and fear.
“It upsets everyone,” she said. “Nobody wants that.”
A group of people were kicked out of Hush nightclub on Sunday morning. That’s when a fight broke out and two unidentified men started firing.
Four people were cut. A 30-year-old man was shot in the chest.
Officers arrived at the scene and immediately performed CPR. The injured was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he was declared dead.
“It’s sad, but I’m not surprised by what the world has seen now,” resident Samantha Marvey said.
Three others were injured. A 24-year-old man was shot in the leg, a 30-year-old man in the shoulder and a 24-year-old woman in the leg. All were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
“It’s really weird to be so close to it but not see it at all,” said Matthew Tamulewicz, a student who recently moved to River North.
Two weapons were recovered and one suspect was taken into custody by responding officers.
Police said they are looking for a second shooter.
Three detectives are investigating the area.
River North is no stranger to violence. In September, a man was shot in the face in a drive-by shooting near LaSalle and Illinois. There was a deadly mass shooting in Chicago and the state where two people died and seven others were injured. In April, the Cook County Sheriff’s Office opened a new command post in a building near Clark and Illinois.
“We definitely need to get back to a status quo — it’s okay, it doesn’t happen to us on a day-to-day basis,” Markren said. “I think a lot of responsibilities will pass, and we’ll look out for each other.”
CBS 2 reached out to Ald. Brendan Reilly and the Cook County Sheriff’s Office had not been heard from as of Sunday evening.
