Dima Hasao (Assam) [India]October 3 (ANI): On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi on Sunday unveiled the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Haflong in Dima Hasao district of Assam.
Speaking about this, the Governor of Assam said, “I am very happy to cut the ribbon on the statue of the Father of the Nation, which was built in the beautiful city of Haflong. When I opened the statue, I paid tribute to Mahatma ji.
“The values and ethics espoused by Bapu ji are not only an inspiration but a guiding light in our society. His teachings of truth, non-violence and eternal brotherhood reinforce the universal philosophy of loving others,” said Mukhi.
The governor of Kasam also thanked the administration of NC Hills for taking the lead in the implementation of this statue in the hill district which he said will help the younger generation to learn about Mahatma Gandhi and learn from his lessons.
Born on October 2, 1869, in the city of Porbandar in Gujarat, Mahatma Gandhi or Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi embraced non-violent resistance and was at the forefront of the freedom struggle against the British colonialists.
This led to India finally achieving its independence in 1947. Popularly known as Bapu, his belief in ‘Swaraj’ (self-rule) and ‘Ahimsa’ (non-violence) won him world awards and all.
Around the world, Gandhi’s birth anniversary is celebrated as the International Day of Non-Violence. Several events are held in India and across the world to mark the occasion. (ANI)
