Guwahati, November 12: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma asked the Assam Police on Friday to reopen all cases related to unusual deaths in the state during the last one year.

The CM said, “In the recent meeting with the police chiefs, I have directed to review similar cases of unnatural death which have been arrested by the police or court and have declared those cases as suicides.”

“From now on, before closing the cases of unnatural death, SP and DIG will join the investigation,” Sarma added.

He also said that unnatural deaths in accidents and homicides will also be reviewed by the police.

On the other hand, the Commander also said that if someone is not satisfied with a case related to suicide, accident, etc., the police can be asked to reopen those cases even if she is 15 years old. According to Sarma, criminal cases do not have any time limit.

Terming the recent case in Darrang district as an ‘eye-opener’, CM Sarma said that after the incident he asked the police that a new law is needed to check cruelty against minors and domestic help.

He further said that top police officers believe that IPC and POCSO are sufficient in such cases, but there is a need to implement strict Standard Operating Procedure (SoP).

“The state government is considering issuing a new SOP on engagement of domestic help in the state,” Sarma added.

It is worth noting that on June 12 of this year, a case was registered at the Dhula police station in Darrang district regarding the rape and murder of a 13-year-old girl.

Later, when Himanta Biswa Sarma met the victim’s family, they accused the SP and other police officers of trying to change the case. Sarma immediately ordered the suspension of the SP and the officer in charge of Dhula station.

The CID has been attached to investigate this case. The charge sheet in this case has already been submitted by the CID and the main accused is in judicial custody.

After SP of Darrang district, OC of Dhula station, another senior officer, three doctors of Mangaldoi civil hospital, and a judge have been arrested so far for allegedly working at the behest of the main accused in the murder case. simple. .
