Chandigarh, November 12, 2022: The Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana, Chandigarh has called for the use of Hindi and Punjabi in the High Court and the legal system to facilitate justice.
Lekh Raj Sharma, Chairman of Chandigarh Legal Education Committee shared his thoughts on legal profession in Hindi and Punjabi. He said it was important for everyone to understand the legal process that required the use of the local language at all levels possible.
The Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana, Chandigarh organized the National Law Conference 2022 on “Young Lawyers: Crossing Legal Barriers” on Saturday at the Law Auditorium, Panjab University Chandigarh (presenting Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and its 60th anniversary).
Justice Krishna Murari (Judge Supreme Court of India), Manohar Lal (Chief Minister of Haryana), Justice Ravi Shanker Jha (Chief Justice, High Court of Punjab and Haryana), Baldev Raj Mahajan (Senior Advocate and Advocate General Haryana), Prof Raj Kumar (Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh) graced the occasion.
Speaking to young lawyers on the subject, Justice Krishna Murari while reminiscing about his days in Chandigarh, when he was the Chief Justice, said that counsel is not a job but a job. to live in ease and comfort. Material possessions are not the measure of a person’s success. The most important thing is that you enjoy what you do. There are no shortcuts to success. A lawyer can provide advice not only for the case but for the whole community, as in the past.
The Chief Minister of Haryana, Manohar Lal told the young students that time will go on and the changes in the law will continue. Lawyers need to get through these changes. The Government is constantly introducing new laws and some laws are amended from time to time. It is important for a young lawyer to be well aware of these things and overcome the obstacles. A good lawyer is someone who thinks about the problems of society and someone who fights for justice. Fight your battles not to win but to get right. He appreciated the work of the Bar Council to decide on the use of local languages.
The Chief Justice, J Ravi Shanker Jha referred to stories from Mahabharata while reminding about the legal and ethical principles. He emphasized the importance of dharma, ancient texts and scriptures and how one should know the path to the journey before starting the journey.
There are five different internships in five different academic areas at Panjab University, under various related sub-projects with the participation of final year law students from different parts of the country. and more than 500 young fans.
Chairman, Bar Council Suvir Sidhu while speaking on ‘Sankalp se Siddhi’, highlighted the importance of these events and the way the Bar Council has taken the path towards progress and digitization.
He highlighted how the Council is working towards the welfare of lawyers during Covid-19 and while the Council is celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, it is also celebrating in the 60th year of the establishment, since 1961. the urgent need to put the regional languages in the legal field.

The Honorable Secretary, Gurtej Singh Grewal told the gathering that the Punjab and Haryana Legislative Council has passed a resolution to this effect and decided to take up the implementation of regional languages (Hindi and Punjabi) in in the High Court and encourage the use of regional languages in the legal system to facilitate justice.
Officials and legal luminaries participated in this seminar. Some of them shared their thoughts on young lawyers and judicial reforms. Suvir Sidhu (Chairman), Ashok Singla (Vice-Chairman), Partap Singh (Member, BCI) and Gurtej S Grewal (Hony Secretary) and Lekh Raj Sharma, Chairman Legal Education Committee, Chandigarh (Event Coordinator) were present at the Conference.
