According to the Chief Justice, Kwasi Anin-Yeboah, the Supreme Judicial Council has withdrawn the recognition of some institutions offering LLB programs to sanctify the legal profession.
This is because there are no lecturers, lecture rooms and libraries.
The Chief Justice spoke at the induction of 846 new lawyers on Friday at the International Conference Center in Accra.
It follows their success in a professional law course at the Ghana Law School.
This year’s intake is the largest ever for those who have taken the post-law course and the two-year professional law course at the Ghana Law School.
The law degree course is designed for Ghanaians or non-Ghanaians who have qualified in common law countries outside of Ghana, which operate under similar legal systems to Ghana.
The Chief Justice said there was no punishment for the act and it was a professional correction.
He said that a visit to some of those institutions led to disturbing reports.
The Chief Justice congratulated the new lawyers, saying that the legal profession is one of the three arms of government and urged them to be proud to become lawyers.
He said there are many misconceptions about the industry and urged them to do their best to dispel them.
The Chief Justice, who is the Chairman of the Supreme Legal Council, told the new lawyers that it is bad for them to see the profession of lawyer as a gold mine and make money.
He said the legal profession is demanding and also requires dedication and professional excellence.
Therefore, he urged them to shun greed and contribute to the growth and development of the country.
“You can’t measure success in terms of money and possessions and let the desire for money and power, position and fame blind you and cast you on the values and values of the industry,” he added.
“But you have to show a high level of commitment, excellence and hard work because you will get respect, good financial rewards and trust from the people you work with”, is said the Chief Justice.
He urged them to continue studying the rules of the court and work hard.
“Do pro bono cases, especially cases with firms like Legal Aid.”
In this year’s induction, Bolson Sabina Saba received the John Mensah Sarbah Memorial Award and the Outstanding Model of Professional Legal Interpretation.
For the Legal Studies Post, Brown Araba Bena Akyenba, was rated as the best student.
Ten others were awarded for achieving high marks in various subjects.
