Guwahati: The Government of Assam on Wednesday decided to form Nagrik Committees at the Thana level of community liaison groups to ensure speedy delivery of core services to the citizens and to ensure greater responsiveness of the police force.
It also decided to create temporary posts in the senior ranks of the Assam Civil Services (ACS) to increase administrative efficiency, while also revising the salaries of judicial officers.
These decisions were issued at a meeting of the cabinet held here, which was chaired by the minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The Cabinet has approved the reformation of Thana level Nagrik Committees (citizen level police committees) so that these will function essentially as community liaison teams at police stations.
The teams will facilitate timely delivery of citizen-centric services to the police department, ensuring police response to complaints registered at police stations and monitoring incidents of misbehavior.
These will also provide information and community feedback on improving policing and creating public awareness of important social issues.
“In today’s #AssamCabinet meeting, we took several decisions regarding the formation of Nagrik commissions for police-public liaison, 1st grade of senior ACS officers, revised salary of judicial officers, allowance of PRI members, rules election of members of society, etc.” CM wrote on Twitter.
